Nelson Rockefeller at Ferrara
Cafe
Little Italy is always a stop for politicians seeking votes. In
the 1960s, Nelson Rockefeller (seated, with his hand raised) and
supporters stop for dessert during his election campaign.
Wearing a white hat and holding a campaign flag is Licia Albanese,
then a diva of the Metropolitan Opera.
In addition to her appearances at the Met and her concert tours,
she also sang on radio. Arturo Toscanini selected her to be the
soprano star for his annual Gala Operatic Broadcast. She recorded
on Victor records. She later became the head of the Puccini Foundation.
Standing behind her is Pietro Lepore, then owner of Ferrara's.
